This is a 15 minute tutor time session or assembly covering the mental health issue of clinical depression. It was originally a Yr 10 PSHE session for tutor time but can be used for all of KS3-KS5, Ages 11-18, Years 7-13. It contains strategies to cope, definitions, a slide of support groups to help students and some discussion activities. It contains a downloaded video clip so it will never disappear. This fits in with the new RSHE curriculum, Keeping Children Safe in Education and the PSHE curriculum.

This is a 10-20 minute assembly about the important issue of homelessness in the UK. It was originally a Year 8 tutor time PSHE session but it can be used as an assembly or easily lengthened for a whole PSHE or Citizenship lesson for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13). It has two downloaded video clips that will never disappear and one centres around StreetLink and the other on homelessness in the UK’s second biggest city, Birmingham. It also includes: Why people become homelessness What can we do to help Number of homelessness children in the UK Streetlink & Birmingham homelessness video The students reacted very positively to this session and began a campaign to raise money for the homeless. This fits into the PSHE, SMSC, FBV and Citizenship Statutory guidance.

This is a 15-20 minute assembly on the role of an MP. It has some specific information about Birmingham but this can easily be adapted to include your own MP by following the website and instructions in the Notes section. This was originally a Year 10 Citizenship tutor time session but could easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson. It covers the definition of an MP, their role and tasks, the importance of democracy, the structure of parliament, what issues young people may be struggling with today and an introduction to ‘Make Your Mark 2022’ with the Youth Parliament. Students reacted very well to this presentation. It fits into the PSHE or Citizenship curriculums or can be used for a KS3, KS4 or KS5 (Ages 11-18 Years 7-13) assembly or whole school session on Fundamental British Values.

This is a 15-20 minute assembly, tutor time PSHE or Citizenship resource or a whole school short session to supplement the History, British Values or SMSC curriculum. It has some discussion questions but no written activities. This is a 15 minute tutor time PSHE session about families. It is suitable for KS2-KS4 (Ages 8-16, Years 4 - 11, Grades 4-10) and can easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson. It fits in to the PSHE curriculum and the new RSE and Health Curriculum. This session was originally used as a Year 7 (11 years old) PSHE tutor time session and was received very well by over 400 students.

This is a 10-20 minute assembly about the refugee crisis in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. It is suitable for KS3, KS4 & KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13, Grade 6-12) and has been used for a tutor time Citizenship session for the whole school. It focuses on: What is a refugee? Summary of Ukranian refugee crisis What the UK are doing to help Organisations that are helping Downloaded video (that will never disappear) from the news explaining how some refugees are facing delays to get in the UK Downloaded video (that will never disappear) about an 11 year old boy who travelled 750 miles from Ukraine alone to reach his family. Debate question regarding the £350 a month the UK government will give to anyone taking in Ukranian refugees How this connects to Fundamental British Values How this connects to the UN Rights of a Child Reflection and discussion points throughout Extra links so students can research further (mainly for online platforms etc or you are using it for a longer lesson) Links to newsround and bbc news website for a look at the news today. Logos, pictures and photos used throughout for visual cues and learners. This session is narrated but this can easily be changed by deleting the icon on each slide if you would prefer. There are no written activities but this could easily be adapted to a whole lesson for Citizenship, Social Studies or can be used as a whole school resource. All proceeds of this resource will be donated to Save the Children for the work they are doing with Ukranian refugee children. All I ask is that you leave a review! This is a 15 minute presentation about blood donation to encourage students to think about donating when they are older and the current need for blood in the NHS. It covers statistics, quotes from donors and their recipients as well as reasons why blood donation is important. It has two short video clips that engage the students well in learning about this important health issue and are downloaded so they will never disappear! There are discussion questions but no written tasks as this is meant for a quick overview in tutor time or similar. It can be shortened or lengthened according to the length of the session. This covers the new RSE and Health Curriculum statutory guidance and can be used in PSHE or Citizenship lessons as well. This is suitable for KS3, KS4, KS5 and possibly KS2. Ages 9-18.

This is a 10-15 minute introduction to adoption and fostering. It is suitable for an assembly or for tutor time in KS3 - KS5 (ages 11-18, Years 7-13) and was originally a PSHE tutor time session for Year 11 but could be lengthened easily to fit a whole lesson. This covers the definitions of adoption and fostering, the process and law involved and the reasons why some people choose to adopt or foster children. There are two short downloaded video clips that will never disappear and some discussion questions designed to allow students to debate this important issue.

This is a 15 minute assembly or tutor time PSHE session about fertility treatment. It contains definitions and why some people need to use fertility treatment, outlines the struggles some people have with conceiving and the emotional issues this may create. It includes discussion activities, has two short downloaded videos which will never disappear and ends with a short quiz to test knowledge. This session is suitable for an assembly for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18) but was originally used as a tutor time PSHE session for Year 11. This fits in with the new RSHE curriculum and the PSHE Curriculum. This could easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson if needed.

This is a 10-15 minute narrated assembly or Citizenship tutor time session on the rail strikes happening in the UK. This was to inform the students about what was going on in the rail strikes, teach them the difference between public and private sector workers and give room for debate about industrial action. This could easily be lengthened to an hour’s lesson by holding a more formal debate. It is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13, Grades 6-12) and can be used as an assembly or part of the Citizenship, PSHE, FBV, SMSC or tutor time programmes. It was originally used for a whole school tutor time Citizenship session at the start of December 2021 to explore the issues it raises. This is a 15 minute assembly or tutor time PSHE session about plastic pollution. It is suitable for KS3-KS5 students (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13) and fits into the PSHE, Citizenship curriculum and addresses the very important current issue of damaging the environment. This explains what plastic pollution is and how we can minimise waste as an individual and as a society. It gives practical suggestions on how to stop plastic pollution and allows students to have some interesting discussions about why it is hard to recycle all plastics that we buy. There is a short downloaded video clip that will never disappear.

This is a 10-20 minute assembly about Brexit which is suitable for KS3 - KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13). It was originally a year 7 tutor time Citizenship session which was very successful. It includes two downloaded video clips that will never disappear, some discussion questions and a quiz as a plenary to check understanding. It includes: What Brexit means What the EU is What happened on Brexit Day What happened after Brexit and what needed to be decided as a country. It also includes a discussion plenary about how Brexit affects them. This fits into the Citizenship scheme of work, Fundamental British Values, SMSC and PSHE. It can easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson. It has no written activities but should last between 10-20 minutes depending on the length of discussion in your class.

This is a 10-15 minute assembly about foreign aid which is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13). It fits with the Fundamental British Values, SMSC, PSHE & Citizenship curriculums and was originally a PSHE tutor time session for Year 9. It contains: What foreign aid is Where the UK’s foreign aid goes Why we give aid How much the UK gives in foreign aid What sort of aid the UK gives A video about where foreign aid goes A video about the government’s decision to cut foreign aid in November 2021 The videos are downloaded so will never disappear and there is a thinking task at the end. This resource does not contain any written tasks, just discussions but can easily be adapted to last a whole lesson if required. Students responded very well to this presentation and lots of interesting and useful discussions were had as a result of this session.
